Available in red, white and black color options, the unit can connect to a local Wi-Fi network to browse and download books from Sony's own eBook store. Users can also upload their own documents and save recent purchases through the "Public Library" function, which they can use view additional content not stored directly on the device. Glare-free sunlight readability is made possible with the inclusion of E-Ink Pearl technology, the same electronic ink used within the popular Amazon Kindle. The Reader's 1.3-gigabyte internal storage capacity can be expanded up to a maximum of 32 gigabytes thanks to MicroSD support, with more than a month of battery life available on a single battery charge. In addition, users can access a built-in dictionary for word reference as they read, as well as jot down notes on a convenient digital notepad.
