Sharp Galapagos 10.8-inch
Released December, 2010
The Sharp Galapagos 10.8-inch is one of two Cloud-based, eBook reading tablets featuring the Android operating system. The larger and less mobile 10.8” Galapagos hosts a 1366x800-pixel HD LCD display, 802.11b/g wireless connectivity, and ‘Automated Scheduled Delivery Service’ access to over 30,000 regularly updated newspapers and magazines, not to mention books.

Missing on the 10.8” model is a trackball, but critics so far haven’t been concerned, as they find it annoying on the unit’s smaller 5.5” peer. The interface however has been noted to be sluggish, as is the pinch-to-zoom functionality on the browser. But there is support for Flash 10.
Additional Information
The Galapagos was initially released in Japan (2010), so it’s XMDF compliant and it supports Japanese expressions like vertical writing and ruby. It was later ported to the rest of the world in 2011.
